Vote for The Lantern!

The TV Book Club summer read series is coming to a close, and there has been a vote running for the favourite book of the season. Now, I don't really like to ask (though my UK publishers have strongly suggested that I do...) but if you've read and enjoyed The Lantern, and you felt it was appropriate, and you felt so inclined, then I'd be very grateful for your vote on the following link (here). It's very straightforward, no joining of a site or anything, and you will have the chance of winning book tokens worth £100 thanks to Specsavers. But you will need to be quick as the vote closes in the next few days.

Here again are the edited highlights from the TV Book Club discussion. We all thought that the panel's verdict was overwhelmingly positive, apart from Rory McGrath's objection to too many descriptive terms - fair comment, actually, which would have alerted those who like their prose plain that this might not be the novel for them - and a few so-so quips from Jo Brand. And the lovely book group in Winkwell seemed unanimously to enjoy it, even the men who thought they might not.

Alors, mes amis, over to you...

I saw this on 4OD catch up a while back and thought that the panel were very positive, on the whole. And I'm personally a fan of descriptive language :)

I voted but I see on one of the comments above that it's only open to UK. No wonder they didn't ask for my State! Oh, well, here's hoping my vote counts anyway.

Well, I have read it (fabulous!!) and I voted. It did not say "UK only" in the rules so I hope the vote counts.

The language was melodic and descriptive... You could smell the scents of lavender through the perfect choice of words and phrases. I was transported!

I voted from Spain, so it may well be rejected at some point, although I don't see why it should be. Anyway, it was great to have a snippet from the Book Club review and to hear you speak of The Lantern, Deborah, as I do not receive English television.

My own view .... that The Lantern is not classed in my mind as a 'holiday read' as it is much more than that. I also get the feeling that the reviewers sort of hold back and try to 'word themselves well' instead of just going for it and enjoying being there on the couch.

An addition; it is right to ask us to vote, but I understand that it is difficult when you do not have a 'salesperson' mentality. I do not tell people about my books as it is unnatural for me to do so and only just manage to mention them on my blog occasionally. I am not anti sales people - that is what my husband's line of work involved.

Hope you win!

I tried, but then saw the UK residency requirement. I suppose there are ways around that...

You are all so kind! I'm bowled over by your support, though I have to say that I rather assumed it would be only the Brits who would be clamouring to get their hands on the £100 Specsavers book tokens!

It's the very sweet thought that counts, as much as actual valid votes. Thank you all.

It is a lovely book - written by someone who reads widely and thinks deeply - the evidence is there on every page and the story continues right to the very last word on the final page....and even beyond as it is explained which parts of the story are based on truth. I already want to read it again, when I get it back!
