The brocante hunt

Under heavenly blue skies at Simiane la Rotonde, we gathered, eyes darting and twitching to run in pursuit of our quarry...on the ground, on tables and stone walls, all manner of quirky items from the sublime to the ridiculous, from the long discarded and broken to the collectors' pieces. A mixture of oddments from local attics and artefacts brought by professional dealers. This is what a good vide-grenier in a village in Provence looks like. Take your time. Have a browse. Imagine that shabby chic farmhouse with outdoor dining terrace. What catches your eye?

Love the old Hanimex movie camera. the tureen with the pink flowers and the beer mugs. I would have been in trouble at that sale :)

Would love to go up to Simiane la Rotonde again, and to this fun day... So, what DID you buy? anything? You're lucky that you can drive it all home, either Provence or UK: such a problem for me!

Actually, I only bought one item: an old postcard with a view of Cereste, dated 1931. An intriguing message on the reverse...

If this sounds abstemious, it's only because I went mad two weeks before at another village brocante, staggering back with two original paintings, a bedspread, a large cooking pan and an oil lamp!

Let's see... I'll take the mortar & pestle, the capiz shell pendant lamp, the beautiful blue and white ceramic (is it a vase or a lamp shade?), the miniature scimitar, the picture frame with metal corners, the lovely white cream pitcher, the red and white canister set, the brass doggie, and the statue of Qwan-Yin (next to the pink marble clock). Whew! Hope there's a cart to get all this stuff home!
